Barcelona favourites over Arsenal to land Pepe Reina
Liverpool goal keeper Pepe Reina has admitted that it would be hard for him to turn down any offer, if one comes from the Catalan club Barcelona. The 30-year-old came through the youth ranks of Barca, and played 49 times for the first team before making the switch to Villarreal and then on to Anfield.
However, he also admitted that, he would like to continue working with Brendan Rodgers, should a return to his homeland not materialise. He says as quoted in the Daily Mail, “I am relaxed and I have a contract. There are always rumours but I am very happy at Liverpool.”
Reina started his Anfield career in a stunning fashion under Rafael Benitez and broke some of club’s records in terms of keeping clean sheets. He won several golden glove awards for his outstanding goal keeping behind the bars. But, post 2008-09, he became more error-prone while injuries have played great part in it.
It has been also reported that Liverpool are trying to sign a Premier League goal keeper with Stoke City’s Asmir Begovic poised to replace the Spaniard. As it stands, Liverpool could sell Reina to Barcelona, if a good offer is presented.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has always been a keen admirer of Reina’s talent and it is to be seen whether, the Frenchman tables yet another bid for him or not in the summer.
