Apart from these two own fans, I doubt anyone else will be interested to watch this game as both are poor and boring to watch nowadays.
Pompey finally return home after losing 3 on the trot on their travels, not managing to find the net in any of them. Overall they’re not the team to expect to score either, but with the Black Cat’s defense there’s always a chance for me to find the net while I play for my neighbourhood seniors.
That’s how bad I rate Sunderland’s defense nowadays, and it’s no wonder they have not won in 11 consecutive EPL games, although they secured home draws in their last 2 vs Stoke and Wigan.
A fortnight ago Pompey hosted the Black Cats in the cup, and the home side won 2-1, so it’s not too much to ask for a repeat of this outcome, especially with Portsmouth having also won their last 3 home games vs Sunderland prior to that cup fixture. In fact, they won 6 of the last 8 H2H, losing only once and drawing only once (both at the Stadium of light).
Pompey could be missing Boateng, Vanden Borre, Utaka, and are certainly without Diop, Hreidarsson, Mokoena, Brown and Smith.
Sunderland are without Mensah, Richardson, Ferdinand and Henderson, but may have Zenden or Malbranque from the start in Henderson’s place.
My only fear is the Pompey spirit. The players have yet to receive their January wages, and it could be that they’re growing tired of this nonsense.
