Tottenham season reaches a critical stage, have they got what it takes?

After Chelsea’s surprise loss and wins for Tottenham and Arsenal last weekend, the race for the last two Champions League berths has been thrown wide open. Tottenham currently hold an edge as they sit in third and Andre Villas-Boas believes that his side will be able to come through in the top four dogfight while also gunning for Europa League glory.

Tottenham missed out on Champions League football this season despite finishing in the top four last term but a similar feat will ensure a spot in the top European competition. Tottenham currently hold 57 points, 2 more than Chelsea and 4 more than Arsenal although both sides have a game in hand over Spurs.

In the midst of the heated scramble in the league, Tottenham will have to host Basel in the quarter-finals of the Europa League this week. AVB has dismissed rumours that his side will struggle to claim success in both competitions

ESPN quoted the Spurs boss as saying, “[The Europa League] has the same importance as every game we play, although I understand that it is always the league position that determines the success of the season. The fact that we are going to be third this week doesn’t put more or less doubt on ourselves or make us over-confident. We have to continue to do our job.”

Spurs can take solace in the fact that Chelsea will also be involved in the Europa League clashes and AVB will hope that fatigue hurts the West Londoners more than it does them as they enter a packed and crucial April.
